The three credit course, "Golf for Business and Life" is one of 59 colleges and universities in the US that offer the course. The PGA program was founded in 1999. By 2000 golf as a business class was offered in just 15 colleges.
The University of Texas has about 750 students in 15 sections enrolled in the business golf class.
Generally students focus on game fundamentals and business golf etiquette such as not bring up business until the fifth hole or after the 15th hole.
"In business when you are trying to do deals or get clients, you're not only trying to sell your product, but you're trying to sell yourself." said PGA Pro Maynor.
At Purdue University the class is part of a series of classes on ethics and leadership for masters of business administration program.
How you dress, behave and manage a golf course has much to do about managing in the business world. When you get into trouble, how you react and deal with a problem lie is similar to how you deal with a difficult business decision.
Lastly, if you shoot under 90 for a round of golf, business associates are more likely to want to play with you. So learning how to play the game is a big part of the course.
